Footnote numbering can reset for each section, so every new section can start its footnotes from the beginning. To configure this, open the References tab and click the dialog launcher in the Footnotes group to open the Footnotes and Endnotes settings. In the Numbering area, choose Restart each section. This requires you to have section breaks to create multiple sections; otherwise there’s only one section and numbering will continue. You can adjust the starting number in the same dialog if you need a value other than 1 for a section. After applying, each section’s footnotes will restart according to this setting.
